HISTORY OF FOOD
CARBON CYCLE:
A carbon cycle is when the series of processes by which carbon compounds are interconverted in the environment, chiefly involving the incorporation of carbon dioxide into living tissue by photosynthesis and its return to the atmosphere through respiration, the decay of dead organisms, and the burning of fossil fuels. This cycle is important because it traps heat in, preventing the world from freezing.

OXYGEN CYCLE:
The oxygen cycle is the biogeochemical cycle of oxygen within its four main reservoirs: the atmosphere, the total content of biological matter within the biosphere, the hydrosphere, and the lithosphere/Earth's crust. Plants receive carbon dioxide from humans breathing and transform it to food that the plants feed off of, which is called photosynthesis. This process provides oxygen for all living things and when they breath, the carbon dioxide is used as food again and the cycle continues to repeat.

NITROGEN CYCLE:
The Nitrogen cycle is the series of processes by which nitrogen and its compounds are interconverted in the environment and in living organisms, including nitrogen fixation and decomposition. The Nitrogen cycle is an important part of our agriculture and ecosystem because all organisms require Nitrogen to live and grow.

SYSTEM APPROACHES:
Systems are something that has great importance to our ecosystem. Everything in the system plays an important role and the system can not function properly with one system out of order.

FOOD PAGE ANALYSIS:
When looking over my food diary, I have noticed that the majority of food that I consume is processed, not locally sourced, and organic. In the eyes of others, this might not be such a big dilemma, especially because majority of the earths population consumes food that isn't locally sourced nor organic and is processed. In Hawaii, because majority if not all the food is imported, meaning that if for whatever reason the shipments of food stop coming, the questions remains, can we live off of locally sourced food?

HOW IT WORKS:
The fish tank below contains fish that are fed regularly. When the fish defecate in the water, it provides nutrients that is then used to water the plants and nurture them, creating a good bond and system.

FOOD PRODUCTION
- How might we be more responsible for our own food production?
Steps that I believe we could take that will make us more responsible for our own food production and make food more secure on the island is instead of building High-Rises or market places, we utilize that space to start growing our own food. This doesn't mean that we will completely eliminate us from importing food from the continent but it does mean that in desperate times, we will have a reliable, self sustaining food system to fall back on instead of a possible shortage.
